Brand-new video: Diversity, equity & inclusion at GCAAR

Feb 4, 2022
GCAAR weaves the principles of DE&I into its greater work - check out a few of the examples.

GCAAR puts action behind our words to make the community a better place.

We’re weaving the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) throughout the work we do to support our members. We’re helping you develop more diverse and inclusive businesses, increasing housing opportunities in traditionally underserved communities, building the next generation of homeowners – and, with your help, making this an association you can be proud of.

We want to show you some of the ways we’ve woven DE&I into the greater work that we’re doing and how we’re taking action. Take a look – and make it your New Year’s resolution to level up with your involvement in 2022!

Looking for inspiration? Check out this brand-new video outlining our DE&I initiatives – featuring your very own GCAAR leadership and colleagues.

As seen in the video, learn more about the GCAAR Diversity & Inclusion Champions Program and its three elements:

Beginning in 2022, GCAAR board and committee applicants will be required to become GCAAR Diversity & Inclusion Champions. Why not plan ahead and become a D&I Champion today?

Building inclusivity

Through our History & Power of Real Estate webinar series and no-cost At Home with Diversity® (AHWD) courses this year and next, we’ve continued the conversation about racism in real estate and helping our members develop inclusive business practices to help buyers of all cultural backgrounds achieve the dream of homeownership.

We’ve added closed captioning to all our virtual events and classes to allow more of our members to participate and work with an even more diverse client base. And, new for 2022, we’re launching a GCAAR Pathways Award to recognize members who are committed to guiding and supporting their clients from traditionally underserved communities along the various pathways to homeownership.

Community support with a lens toward DE&I

In alignment with our commitment to increasing housing opportunities for all, especially in traditionally underserved communities, GCAAR has established two community partnerships as part of our Cares 2.0 program.

Partnership with Capital Area Asset Builders, 2021-2021

Capital Area Asset Builders (CAAB) works to ensure local individuals from traditionally underserved and underrepresented communities have access to education, resources and tools to make homeownership a reality. Our partnership has already produced money management webinars that reached more than 425 individuals who may not have thought owning a home was possible.

Take a look at how some aspiring homeowners in our community are benefiting from this program:

Partnership with Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland, 2022-2024

Our 2022 partnership with Habitat will support homeowner education for the recipients of Habitat for Humanity homes, supporting pathways to housing and volunteer engagement of GCAAR members.

Thank you for being an important part of our association and for helping GCAAR continue to enhance our DE&I initiatives!
