The Greater Capital Area Association of REALTORS® is participating in Transitional Housing Corporation's Adopt-an-Apartment project this summer as part of their GCAAR REALTORS® Care efforts.
Through this program, GCAAR members will donate items to furnish a small two-bedroom apartment for a single mother and two children. Members may donate items every Saturday through September 3 between Noon and 2 p.m. at St. Thomas' Parish in Dupont Circle (1772 Church Street NW, Washington, DC 20036). The church is a founding partner of THC and has allowed GCAAR to use part of its basement for storage.
GCAAR members will also move-in the furniture and other household items on Saturday, September 10. Affiliate GCAAR members Town & Country Movers are donating their services and truck for moving day. Members of the GCAAR Rookie Society are also donating their physical labor for moving day.
The GCAAR REALTORS® Care program aims to support the generous involvement of GCAAR members in the communities they serve and to promote their giving & service in the community. GCAAR provides ongoing opportunities for its members to contribute time, energy and effort to their communities.
GCAAR is the voice for REALTORS® in Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Maryland. Representing more than 11,000 real estate professionals in the greater capital area, GCAAR provides numerous services vital to its members' daily business needs and works with lawmakers to ensure public policy that encourages home ownership.
THC provides housing and comprehensive support services to homeless and at-risk families so that they can make transformational changes in their lives. Transitional Housing Corporation helps homeless families in the District of Columbia transform their lives. They live in a fully furnished apartment in the THC-owned Partner Arms II, a 13-unit building at 4506 Georgia Avenue NW. During their two-year stay, families participate in a mandatory program of services that include employment and career counseling, family dynamics and parenting skills, life skills counseling, substance abuse counseling and therapy for adults and children.
