GCAAR is initiating a hurricane relief project similar to the one executed for tsunami relief at the beginning of the year. REALTORS® raised over $8 million to help the families of 9/11 victims keep their homes and we raised more than $1.8 million in record time for the victims of the tsunami. Now we must help the victims of Hurricane Katrina?so many of whom are our friends and colleagues.
"While we acknowledge the fact that many of our members have already made very generous contributions to various relief organizations, we are asking for a donation from each of our members," said Susann Haskins, GCAAR President. "As we have heard, the recovery period from Katrina may take years and billions of dollars. Thousands of people—including real estate professionals—may be out of work for a long time. It's very clear victims and survivors will need every penny we can raise—and every penny that we raise will make its way to someone in need. Not one cent will be spent on administrative costs."
