The Greater Capital Area Association of REALTORS® recently devoted their time to two worthy causes--improving the roof over the heads of two local families and donating books to children.
On Saturday, April 30, two GCAAR volunteer teams participated in the Rebuilding Together program. The teams rehabilitated two homes, one for a single mother of two in Rockville and the other for an elderly homeowner in the District. GCAAR's commitment to affordable, barrier-free housing compelled them to assist these homeowners, whose failing health or fixed income does not allow them to cover the extraordinary costs of home repair.
GCAAR would like to thank all members who showed up on a soggy Saturday to help two homeowners in the metro area.

Held during the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Midyear Meetings at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, REALTORS® from across the country attended "Barrel of Books" to mix and mingle with other conference attendees and donate a book (or several) to Catholic Charities' local literacy program. GCAAR's "barrel" overflowed by the end of the night.
GCAAR extends a special thanks to the staff of Books-A-Million's Dupont Circle location, who were on site selling children's books to attendees who may have forgotten to bring a book. In all, B-A-M sold $750 in books on site, and GCAAR was able to donate more than 150 books.
GCAAR represents more than 11,000 REALTORS® in Montgomery County, Maryland, and Washington, DC. The association provides a variety of services to local real estate professionals such as providing continuing education courses, setting up lockboxes and constantly keeping them informed of up-to-date changes within the industry. GCAAR is also the voice for the area's REALTORS® and works with lawmakers to ensure public policy that encourages home ownership in the greater capital area.
