Does each individual agent have to buy a permit for $31 for each sign they put out in the right of way (i.e. advertising open houses, etc.)? |
![]() |
Yes or use a limited licensed, limited duration installer. |
![]() |
And is the area between the sidewalk and the curb public right of way or is that considered private property? |
![]() |
Generally, yes. This area is in the public r-o-w. |
![]() |
Are signs put in the yard of a corner lot where there is no sidewalk considered to be in the public right of way? |
![]() |
A corner lot's property line, when you look at their survey, does not extend out to the curb or street. When a sign is placed on personal, residential property, the sign must be set back a minimum 5 feet from the front lot line. Width of an r-o-w varies from street to street throughout the county. |

What is an annual licensed limited duration sign installer? |
![]() |
A licensed installer may install signs for others. |
![]() |
Can I get a license so all the agents in my office can install their own limited duration signs under the auspices of me, as a Manager, but without me physically doing it for them? |
![]() |
No, not at this time. |
![]() |
Are Office Managers liable for an agent's fine if they put a sign in the wrong place? |
![]() |
Some signs do not list the agent working for the REALTOR®; therefore, the resident agent for the REALTOR® company would be served the citation. The Department of Permitting Services can very well cite the agent if their name is on the sign. |
![]() |
What does it mean that the "total sign area must not exceed 10 square feet" in a Residential zone? Does that include all the riders that REALTORS® attach to a sign (i.e. agent's name, etc.)? Or is it just the actual sign with the office phone number? What is the exact meaning of "total?" |
![]() |
This applies to sign(s) on private property in a residential zone. The number of signs (temporary or limited duration) is not restricted. However, sign area (measurement of length times the width) must not exceed 10 sq. ft. for an individual sign and or all signs combined. |
![]() |
Can an agent get a permit for say 6 signs and then keep using them over and over again or do they need to go and get a new permit every week for each different open house? |
![]() |
The sign permit is specific to a business location such as an open house and therefore, the permits would only be issued for that location. |
![]() |
If a business can be a licensed sign installer, then can anyone in that office physically put up the signs? And if a person in the office is the licensed installer, do they have to be the person physically putting up the signs? Or is there some sort of permit sticker that goes on the sign? |
![]() |
Anyone can install the signs under the authorization of the licensed sign installer. The licensed installer will, however, be responsible for compliance with the sign regulations. |
