FAQs
DC Licensing Renewal

Is it true that I cannot change brokers within the last 60 days of renewal?
DC real estate licensees can change their sponsoring broker at any time, except during the online renewal process. If the licensee chooses to change the broker company during online renewal, the licensee must submit a paper renewal.
I got my salesperson license in December. Do I have to take CEs to renew my license?
The DC real estate licensure law states that salespersons licensed in the first cycle of renewal are exempt from taking CE courses in the first renewal. For salespersons, that means you are exempt if the issue date on your license is between Sept. 1, 2007 and Aug. 31, 2009.
What are the continuing education requirements for the 2007-2009 licensing cycle?
The DC Board of Real Estate approved the same mandated CE titles for the 2007-2009 licensing cycle as for the 2005-2007 cycle. They are 3 clock hours each in: DC Fair Housing and Predatory Lending; DC Legislative Update, Rent Control and Landlord-Tenant Housing Rights; and DC Ethics Update, and 6 clock hours in general electives, for a total of 15 clock hours.
Am I exempt from taking CE courses if I'm a broker or property manager?
Brokers and property managers who get their initial license between March 1, 2007 and February 28, 2009 are exempt from taking CEs, if this cycle will be their first renewal.
How do I obtain a paper renewal? I'm not comfortable with submitting my credit card information online.
Contact Promissor by calling (888) 204.6192 to get your paper renewal notice mailed to you. Make sure you give yourself enough time for them to mail your notice, and for you to return it by the 8/31/09 deadline.
I took a course from a very reputable school, but I don't see the school on the list of approved schools. Is that ok?
All schools must first be approved by the DC board prior to you taking it, in order for you to get CE credit towards your license renewal. The reason is that each school is given a unique ID number, which allows them to bank your course online, and have them applied to your licensee transcript. This process aids you during licensing renewal.
