162,000 dead
4 of 5 survivors need psychiatric help.
1.5 million children displaced from their home or orphaned.
500,000 people seriously injured. More than 5 million left homeless—roughly the population of
Los Angeles.
This is a way for the REALTOR® community to help in a meaningful way.
Five million people have been left homeless. As a profession whose purpose it is to link families with their new home, how can we stand by and do nothing when so many lost their homes to circumstances out of their control? We can't! Therefore, we all need to contribute toward a larger, specifically REALTOR® relief effort.
As REALTORS® we are so closely involved with our communities every day that the thought of such an overwhelming event cries out for our assistance.
We are particularly inclined to try to help these efforts because our REALTOR® community is quite diverse, and many of our members have roots in the affected region.
All donations to tsunami relief funds made before January 31, 2005, may be counted as part of your 2004 tax returns.
The larger the donation GCAAR makes to Save The Children, the more it will improve the REALTOR® image (worldwide, not just in the DC metro area).
GCAAR is only asking for $5 per member. That's as much or less than your morning Starbuck's, lunch or a cocktail. This is such a nominal amount! If you make $50,000 a year, $5 is .0001% (one-ten thousandth of a percent) of your yearly income.
$5=218 Indian Rupees; 86% of the population lives under $2 per day; 44% lives under $1 per day.
Can't fathom how this happened? Below are links to animation of this horrific event:
