Maryland Legislative Update - June 2006
ICC Wins Final Approval from Federal Government
On May 30, 2006 the Federal Highway Administration issued the "Record of Decision," which was the final step for the Federal Environmental Impact Statement review process of the ICC. This means that the project is on its way to construction, which is expected to begin this Fall and be completed around 2010 and 2011. GCAAR has always been on record supporting the ICC, which has been in the Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties master plans for over 40 years and will provide a critical East-West highway link between the I-270 and I-95 corridors and substantially reduce congestion and traffic accidents. Reducing traffic congestion will improve the quality of life for all homeowners and future homebuyers not just in Montgomery County and the State of Maryland but also throughout the entire metropolitan area region.
Montgomery County Legislative Update
Throughout the months of May and June, GCAAR has been conducting candidate interviews for persons seeking a seat on the Montgomery County Council. Once GCAAR has interviewed all candidates who would like to meet with representatives of GCAAR, we will make a decision on endorsements for the different positions the candidates are seeking. In late August a ballot will be mailed to GCAAR members, which announces the REALTOR® endorsed candidates for the Montgomery County Executive and Council primary races to be held on September 12.
