WHY DOES IT EXIST?

Cutting through the communications clutter is one of GCAAR’s greatest challenges. This committee figures out the best way to let you know what you need to know.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Reviews and recommends communication delivery methods
  • Reviews, recommends, and contributes content for print and online communications

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Attend monthly meetings as needed  (30 minutes - 1 hour)
  • “Homework” between meetings may include brainstorming content, reviewing materials, or writing articles (1 – 2 hours per month)

WHO CAN APPLY? All GCAAR members, especially those with a communications background

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

Gives REALTORS® from the greater community the opportunity to meet, network, and work together on projects that benefit the greater community.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Raises money for GCAAR CARES fund
  • Runs charitable grant program (from setting rules to recommending award recipients)
  • Recognizes members who contribute to the community

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Attend monthly meetings (1.5 hours per month)
  • Participate in at least one subcommittee (5 – 100 hour commitment over 2- 8 weeks)
  • Participate in at least one volunteer activity supported by GCAAR (approx. 3 hours for each activity)

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

The Education Committee’s mission is to provide members with the resources, education and training necessary to advance the careers of REALTORS®.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Suggests topics and speakers for continuing education
  • Suggests topics, speakers, and sponsors for non-CE classes including green trends, rookie education, and manager/broker forums
  • Researches and recommends which designation courses to offer

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Attend 4-6 full committee meetings each year (30 minutes per meeting)
  • Participate in one subcommittee (30 minutes – 2 hours per month as needed)

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

The creative minds of this committee pull together events from soup to nuts.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Solicit and secure sponsors for annual trade show
  • Plan and execute events such as:
    • International events
    • Presentations highlighting new developments throughout DC and the County
    • Self-funding networking events

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Attend monthly meetings (1.5 hours per month)
  • Participate in at least one subcommittee (a 5 – 50 hour commitment over 4 – 12 weeks)

Forms Committee (formerly Contract and Clause Committee) (view roster)

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

The mission of the Forms Committee is to review the  Association's current forms and make recommendations or revisions.  Forms are opened for review in response to legislative or regulatory requirements, or significant changes to either market conditions or to industry best practices.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Reviews the association's current standardized forms and makes recommendations on revisions
  • Creates new forms as needed (determined by market conditions and changing regulations)
  • The committee will be composed of an established number of REALTOR® practioners, Manager/Brokers, Team Leaders, and attorneys.  Total membership on the committee will not exceed 17.

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Attend monthly meetings (2 hours per month)
  • “Homework” between meetings may include reading, proofing, or editing forms (1 – 10  hours per month)

WHO CAN APPLY?

REALTOR® members must have been in the business since at least January 1, 2012 in order to qualify for the 2015 committee.

Must demonstrate extensive experience with GCAAR forms as evidenced by transaction counts over the past three years, or in the case of the Manager/Broker or Team Leader/trainer, the number of transactions processed in the office or by the team. 

Prior experience on another GCAAR committee is preferred but not required.

Grievance Committee (view roster)

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

GCAAR’s Grand Jury for ethics complaints and arbitration requests.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Reviews documents filed in ethics complaints and arbitration requests
  • Determines whether to forward cases to Professional Standards Committee for hearings

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Attend monthly meetings (2 hours per month) for a three-year term
  • “Homework” between meetings includes reading and analyzing cases filed (1 – 4  hours per month)
  • Attend professional standards training seminar in January (3 hours)

WHO CAN APPLY? Any GCAAR REALTOR® member; limited to 17 members (including Chair and Vice Chair)

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

Every self-regulating group needs a jury pool – the professional standards committee is ours.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

Members sit on hearing panels for cases involving:

  • Code of Ethics violations (Ethics)
  • Contractual disputes and specific non-contractual disputes (Arbitration)

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Attend quarterly training meetings (2 hours every three months)
  • Serve on hearing panels as necessary (2 – 5 hours per hearing)

WHO CAN APPLY? Any GCAAR REALTOR® member who has served at least one 3-year term on the Grievance Committee; committee must include a wide representation of brokerages

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

Property management requires a slew of forms unique to the specialty. This committee includes the experts within GCAAR’s membership who write and revise them.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Reviews the association's current standardized property management forms and makes recommendations on revisions 
  • Creates new property management forms as needed (determined by market conditions and changing regulations)

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Attend monthly meetings (2 hours each)
  • “Homework” between meetings may include reading, proofing, or editing forms (1 – 3 hours per month)

WHO CAN APPLY?  All GCAAR members whose business is 50% or more property management

  • Participate in county or state task forces, attend hearings

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

If we’re not sitting at the table when elected officials make decisions about our industry, we ARE dinner.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Raises funds for candidates and campaigns that support the industry

WHO CAN APPLY?   Committee members are appointed by the GCAAR President.

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

The leaders of the future are building their networks today. GCAAR’s YPN helps them do it.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • Select type of event, topics, speakers, and locations for quarterly events
  • Solicits and secures sponsors for events

TIME COMMITMENT 

  • Attend quarterly meetings (1 hour each) and call-in for monthly meetings (30 minutes each)
  • Solicit speakers and sponsors between meetings (4 – 8 hours annually)
  • Attend quarterly YPN events (2 – 3 hours per event)

WHO CAN APPLY? All GCAAR members
